Day 1 continued/Day 2

I was kind of delirious by the time we got to St. Louis last night, so I'll continue the day here.

It seemed like it took forever to get out of PA, but eventually we made it through West Virginia and Ohio. Then, we made a stop in Indianapolis, Indiana for some nostalgia. We remembered having some good times there at the Steak N Shake on our marching band trip, so we went back and had the best meal of our lives...since we hadn't eaten in about eight hours.

We got back on the road and drove through some ridiculous rain in Illinois...I seriously thought either I was going to lose my life or the truck driver who was trying pass me during the torrential downpour was going to. We passed a town called Pocahontas, so we clearly had to get out and take a picture by the sign. We finally made it to Andrea's aunt and uncle's house outside of St. Louis! It took us 15 hours total...including 3 stops for gas/driver switch and a sit down lunch.

Today we first visited Grant's Farm, which is on the old property of Ulysses S. Grant and is now owned by the Anheiser-Busch family. There were all different animals there and most importantly, the famous Clydesdales. I was too scared of horses/germs to pet them but they were really pretty to look at.

Then, we headed into downtown St. Louis to visit the Gateway Arch. It really is huge and a pretty beautiful piece of architecture. By this time, we were pretty hungry for lunch. Instead of finding some sort of popular local food...we went to Pita Pit. It was totally worth it though.

Our last major stop for the day was the Budweiser Brewery. We went on a really long, but interesting, tour all about making and packaging beer. The thoughts that went through my head were:
1. Americans require a lot of beer to live.
2. Thank god didn't live during prohibition.
3. This company is pretty awesome because it is American based and creates so many jobs in the country.

After we got our free sample (I clearly chose Bud Light Lime) we headed home to relax before dinner. We ate with Andrea's family at the St. Louis Bread Company, which is Panera but was based here in St. Louis.

Now it's off to bed. Probably won't have too much to talk about tomorrow because I can't imagine what can be interesting to say about 14.5 hours of driving through Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

  1. Christina,

Enjoy your amazing adventure. Be careful, have fun and try to eat where the locals eat.
